Frequently asked questions
Blocked isn’t
the same as focused.
What is Caliph?
Caliph is a to-do list with a Chrome extension. You choose the websites that distract you. When you open one, Caliph pauses it and shows your own tasks instead, so you can come back to what you meant to do.
How is Caliph different from a website blocker?
A blocker stops you and shows a blank page. That often leaves your mind blank too: no task, no next step, so it’s easy to drift somewhere else. Caliph puts your own to-do list where the distraction would have been, so your next step is already in front of you.
Why doesn’t blocking a site always help?
Stopping an impulse doesn’t tell you what to do instead. The urge to switch is still there, and with nothing to act on, it’s easy to open another site or turn the blocker off. A clear next step helps. Caliph shows your own tasks, so your attention has somewhere to land.
Can I still open a site Caliph pauses?
Yes. Caliph pauses a site; it doesn’t lock you out. After you see your tasks, you choose whether to continue.
